Event Description:

Join us for a beautiful 9½-mile (15.3 km) ride starting and ending at Daggers Gate, nestled between Winfrith Newburgh and Lulworth. This scenic route will take you on a clockwise loop through a variety of terrain, including farm tracks, chalk pastures, and quiet country lanes.

With special thanks to James Weld and Mike Watkins for making this ride possible for us with access and parking.

Key Highlights:

  • Stunning sea views towards Weymouth and Portland during the first section of the ride.

  • A track through the picturesque farming hamlet of Holworth.

  • A ride past the Five Marys Bronze Age barrows on the ridge to Winfrith.

  • A peaceful descent towards the village of East Chaldon.

  • A return route through Lime Kiln, ending back at Daggers Gate.

Route Information:

  • The route is marked with rainbow tags to guide you along the way. Two tags together indicate a turn, and the direction of the double tags indicates which way to go.

  • The route will cross a couple of roads on the ridge and pass through several gates. There may also be livestock in the fields.

  • Important Note: Some gates near Lime Kiln and Sleight Buildings can be tricky to open, so we may need assistance in managing these, especially if the gates are closed.

Parking:

  • Parking will be available in the Daggers Gate overflow field. If the ground is too wet, parking will be in the Daggers Gate farm yard.

Stewarding Information:

To ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable ride, we will have stewards stationed at key points:

  • Road Crossings: Two road crossings on the ridge will be stewarded for safety.

  • Gates: Most gates are easy to navigate, but there are three tricky gates near Lime Kiln & Sleight Buildings that may need assistance.
